LIPTA L. I. Men's 'A' Championship
|
Saturday January 30th, the entrants were greeted by, arguably, the coldest paddle weather of the season. Evidenced by the spectators, for the finals, jammed into the Cherry Valley hut.
In the Main Draw, John Schmitt + Dan Rothschild took the measure of Alex Bancila + Brad Easterbrook, 6-2; 6-4, to claim the title.
Quarter-Final Reprieve, Alfred Morgan + Peter Arciero, in a well played match, defeated Brendan Hand + Drew Arbeiter 6-4; 1-6; 6-4.
Consolation, Terry McLaughlin + Dan Englander won over Andy Cohn + Craig Henne 6-2; 6-3.
Consolation Reprieve, the Morris brothers - Peter + Walter defeated the father-son team of Woody + Brad Horn 6-1; 6-2.
LIPTA would like to thank the Cherry Valley Club, Garden City Country Club and their members for making their facilities available for this tournament.
REMINDER - The L.I. Men's 'B' Championship will be February 27th at the Huntington C.C. and Head of The Bay Club.

APTA JUNIOR NATIONALS
|
January 30th, New Canaan, CT,Long Island teams make a good showing at the APTA Junior National Championships.
In the Boys 18+Under, the Brosnan twins - Pat + Chris took the Championship by defeating Nick Newhouse + Jason Ottomano (Weston, CT) 6-4; 6-1.
In the Boys 12+Under, another Garden City team, Bobby Clarke + Robbie Gavigan were Finalists, losing to a CT team - Slobin + Daley 6-2; 6-2.

TRIVER'S MEMORIAL 95+
|
At Nassau C.C., on Saturday January 23rd, LIPTA conducted the 31st Annual Julian Triver's Memorial Tournament. John Mcmillin III + Dennis Tselentis, representing Cherry Valley Club, defeated Bob Slater + Donn Haber, representing Crest Hollow C.C., 7-5; 6-4. This represented an unprecedented 6th consecutive Triver's Memorial win for McMillin + Tselentis.
LIPTA would like to thank Nassau C.C. + Creek for the use of their fine facilities in conducting this tournament.

L.I. Women's Championships
|
On Friday January 8th, in classic paddle weather - light snow falling - temps in the 20's, LIPTA conducted the 2010 L.I. Women's Championships.
In the 'A', Kate Schneider and Nancy Talcott, took the title, defeating Marie Adams and Buttons O'Donnell - 6-0; 7-5.
In the 'B', the seeds held up, #1 seed Joanne Hahn and Jackie Heise defeated #2 seed Eileen Neville and Stacy Cohn 6-2; 6-1.
Congratulations to all.
A special thanks to the volunteers who ran the tournaments, Kate Schneider Tim Mangan, Cyndi Kopprasch and Jim Healy.
LIPTA appreciates the clubs and their members who made courts available for the tournament - Nassau C.C., Huntington C.C., Crest Hollow C.C. and the Huntington Bay Club.

LIPTA Men's 120+
|
The coldest day of the year greeted the teams competing in the LIPTA Men's 120+. The tournament, played at the Huntington C.C. and the Huntington Bay Club, found the very fine team of Doug Barrow + Bob Slater representing Crest Hollow C.C. taking the honors. They defeated John McMillin and Woody Horn, of the Cherry Valley Club, in the final 6-4; 6-4.
